The best possible development of young dogs in the protection Service for the working K9 area

A new dog comes into the house. His professional future is predetermined. He is to be used as a working k9 dog, as a permanent partner at your side. He is young and immature. But time is pressing. When a dog is planned to be used in the Service of an authority or a company, there is usually no time for delays in the training of the dog. Very few bosses have the understanding that the training needs time and must take the development of the dog into account.

So, this time pressure, which at the same time always has to do with a financially secured professional future, creates a little bit of sloppiness in dog training. One is dependent and does not see various problems in the progress of the dog – or one does not want to see them at all. One may not see them, because it must work now absolutely and immediately, so that the job or the order is secured.

The next step is to find a suitable “decoy”, or at least a partner with whom you can train your dog in the protection Service. The lucky ones among us have such a talented decoy in their private environment. Others must rely on the nearest dog club nearby. This is actually the topic in our K9 world.

The opinions about the right dog and decoy work for a prospective working k9 dog – no matter whether it is used by
authorities or for private purposes – are very different. Clubs pursue other goals and the work to the protection dog on duty is another one.
In the world of sport, training is geared towards prey motivation, as the respective associations and the German Animal Protection Act also want it. An official training of the dog is always oriented towards a civilian work on the decoy, because in an emergency the offender, troublemaker or fugitive does not wear a bite arm.

Therefore, special characteristics are expected from a future working k9 dog. We already talked about this in the first part of the book. So, the following question arises:

Which approach and training methods are important for the development of a young dog?:

The DOGINARE 6-phase training of working dogs

Phase I: Structure of the basic exercise

➢ Work on identical location

➢ Working in rituals (identical procedure)

➢ Introduction of physical stress

➢ Getting used to the body worker

➢ Promotion of attention, concentration and obedience, prey motivation
